Use an extended equation if your height is in centimeter
If your height is in centimeters, you can still measure your BMI, but you’ll need to use a slightly different equation. Your weight in kilograms divided by your height in centimeters, then divided by your
height in centimeters, then multiplied by 10,000 in the equation.
- For instance, if your weight in kilograms is 60 and your height in centimeters is 152, you will divide 60 by 152 to get 0.002596 (60 / 152 / 152). When you multiply this number by 10,000, you get 25.96, or approximately 26. This person’s BMI is estimated to be around 26.
- You can also convert the height from centimeters to meters by shifting the decimal two places to the left. Then, by squaring your height in meters and dividing your weight by your height in meters squared, you can calculate your BMI. 1.52 multiplied by 1.52 equals 2.31, for example. If you weigh 80 kilograms, divide the number by 2.31 to get a BMI of 34.6.
Method 2: Using imperial measurements
Step 1:
Square your height in inches
To square your height, multiply it by itself in inches. If you’re 70 inches tall, for
example, multiply 70 by 70. In this case, your answer will be 4,900.

Divide your weight by height
- Weight = 180 pounds
- Height square = 4900 inch^2
- Weight/ height^2 = 180 / 4900 = 0.03673
- Body mass index(BMI) = 0.03673 x 703 = 25.8
